About Us

My name is Laurie O’Neill.

I am a weaver of threads and vines, a binder of books, a maker of paper, a carver of lines, a lover of tendrils, stars, and holes.

I am entranced with things that go unnoticed, the magical spaces between yarns and branches, the movement of mountains to sand, and dictionaries.

I love the connection between hand and soul and object, skin and water and sky, toes and roots and earth.

Fibers and books are my current passions. I journal my thoughts and I make books that I would like to fill with life, but I make more books than I can fill, so sometimes I offer them to you so that you can fill them with your life.

Weaving has been important to me for over thirty years. Although largely self-taught, in 2014 I received my BA in Studio Art that I began back in the early 1980s. I am addicted to art retreats and workshops in beautiful places.

In my day job, I am happily employed as a secretary at UNCG. I like to eat good food too much, and grow it when possible.

My husband Sandy and I live in Greensboro, North Carolina. Our cats Pablocito and Diego are our children. We have been privileged to earn the love of many rescued and feral cats during the last three decades. Our two rescued parakeets, Bernie and Frida, hate everybody.

My other obsession is permaculture – the “Back Forty.” I raise some of our food in a small urban space without chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.

  2. I loved your fiber art, the colors (especially the blue, red & violet), the texture looks interesting. Do you have a studio where you show, tell, and sell? Congrats on your degree, too. Margareta

  3. Hi Margareta, thanks! Also thanks for reminding me that I need to update this page. I have decided to take a break from selling for a while and just create things with the sole purpose of satisfying me. If I sell again, I will try to find another gallery, hopefully in the Asheville area, and/or sell over my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Slow-Turn-Studio/116120925095003. I will announce it here and on the FB pages as well when that happens.

  4. Hi Joe – O’Neill is my married name and my husband’s O’Neills hail from New York. You might be thinking of Mr. McNeill, who has a fabulous little cabin on Canal Cove Rd. My cousin’s house is down the road.

  5. Hi, Laurie — Stacy of TWS here. I’m just down the road in Durham and hope we can meet & chat before too long. I spent my elementary school years in Greensboro, by the way… 🙂
