Sunrise at Fort Worden State Park

I’ve uploaded photos to Flickr but will be editing and writing descriptions over the next week. It will be difficult to choose the ones to show here on the blog. This is a teaser. I finally just picked one at random from the Sunday sunrise photos, the sunrise that put the sun in Sunday.

I’ve really got to study medieval art history too, way behind.

Two corkscrew willows, one living, one dying.

If I had been completely alone, you can bet that I would have been scrambling over these rocks to play in the river and collect pebbles.

You can usually find beauty if you look for it. In this case, it was a walk beside a ditch behind the Super 8 Motel in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Black Mountain asters

These asters were much bluer in person.

Wild lettuce

I think that this is wild lettuce.

Black Mountain rushes

I wish that I knew my plants better.

Black Mountain wildflower

Ditto.

Black Mountain pokeweed berries

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! I know this one, pokeweed!

There are a lot of things that I need to learn about selling on Etsy, and I figure that I’ll never learn until I try.

T’ank you veddy much.

We got five inches of snow last night at our house, the largest snowfall we’ve seen in a long, long time. Even though I miss my feral kitties, I am relieved that I don’t have to worry about them in this kind of weather. Ozzie used to hate the snow and he would sit out in the middle of it and cry. He wasn’t too bright.

I’m happy to be inside with the woodstove going. My sliding down hills days are over! So grateful to have this extra day at home, since the week ahead will be busy.

Guido was happy that I was up at 4 a.m.

After driving through a cloud in Hayesville, North Carolina, this scene appeared.

Is it Avalon? Jim Dollar thinks that there must be a sword or a grail nearby.

Today, I have hope. This is the first election in years that I have not met with dread. In 2004, I wore black for a week after the election. This time I plan to wear purple.

I wandered down to Little Brasstown Creek late Friday afternoon and did a little reflecting. And picked up some pebbles, of course. On the way back I photographed a few wildflowers. This beautiful lichen was on downed limbs all over the place.

Every time I walked over this meadow I felt like twirling around and breaking into song like Julie Andrews.

My willow oak in snow

My favorite tree, the willow oak on my walk to work.

I think that this tree is a redbud. The snow was piled as high as the horizontal branches were thick.

The Back Forty hasn’t seen this much snow in a long time, but the raised beds are snugly comfortable under their row covers. I just missed the sunrise.

It is supposed to get into the 50s today, so we’ll have to enjoy this brief beauty now.

I’ve spent the last 2-3 hours listening to the end of Pride and Prejudice, the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities, and a short story by Laurie Colwin while weaving the strap for my tapestry bag. I padded into the kitchen for a late supper of the beef stew I put in the slow cooker, when I glanced out the window and did a double-take:

This view is from my studio door toward the back of my house.

You have to understand, we haven’t had much of this stuff lately. And although someone mentioned this forecast today, I pooh-poohed it because my weather sources didn’t mention a chance of it. And everybody knows that I’m the go-to person for the weather report.

It’s a shame that my camera batteries are so low, because I’m missing some great shots tonight.
